Thoughts to ponder for the week.

In Dao-Ming Dao's daily meditation book on Tao he has written:

'External worship is mainly a means to point within to the true source of salvation.'

Being a 'seeker' most of my life I was always looking for the answers externally. When I began to teach psychology and practice psychotherapy with clients, I learned from my students and clients as well as taught subject matter. When I came across the the above quote, I was delighted because it succinctly indicated what I have been feeling for a long time now. The answers lie within if we only pay attention and listen. Finding the truth within: how?

1. Meditate

2. Listen to your self

3. Write, paint, walk, move to 'joggle the brain'

4. Practice, Practice, Practice

5. Trust your self

To learn anything 'Kung Fu it'. Another Taoist write, Derek Lin writes about how to 'Kung Fu' it:

1. Reading books about the Tao
2. Digesting the words, turning them into wisdom
3. Applying the wisdom in real life situations

He is writing about learning Taoism. I believe to 'Kung Fu it' applies to whatever it is you want to learn. It only works if you do it.

Have a magical, healthy and 'Kung Fu' week.

Welcome to our blog where the focus is on creativity in all its forms. We believe everyone is creative and have their own unique style and area of expertise.
My above sketch is a type of Asian brush painting. It is an ancient technique of depicting art. It is based on the principal that 'less is more'. It is a technique that I learned awhile ago; yet, the technique seems to be my current 'muse' and is spilling on to the art paper along with writing haiku which a Japanese type of poetry. Once again this type of 'poem' is very succinct and leaves room for the reader to interpret. In a way, I wonder if this art expression isn't enhancing my life and my need to keep life simple.

Welcome to our blog where we believe everyone is creative in life. Each person is unique yet similar and to live life well, one needs to be creative. How are you living creatively, mindfully? Today?

How do you find your style of creativity?

1. Begin a list of activities that you love to do.

Watch and observe how well you do them?

2. List activities that you are not fond of doing?

Watch and observe how well you do them?

3. Now compare the list ~ are you not creative at doing both? Yet,
which one comes more easily most of the time?

Essentially, when we love to do something, the energy flows, comes naturally. Yes, there are times we may have to be more creative than usual. More times than not, though, the motivation is there. We are mindful of the task. We just do it.

When it is not something we are fond of, how much more creative are you at 'getting out of doing' that activity? If possible. With either one of the activities you are using your creative energy.

The above photo I took on one of my walks at the local park with ArtMuse Dog last week. It was a very cold and wintry day and the first day I ventured out after being 'down with a wretched cold'. To my amazement, this rose bush had one small rose and still so much color in the bush itself. This was rather a miracle of nature to me and symbolic of the strength and endurance of this plant.

Welcome to our blog focused on creative expression of various styles and how good it can be to the Spirit. Today we are linked to Sophia's Sunday Sketches at her blog Blue Chair Diary. (Click on the 'pink' link to go there) Not yet, though, lots to share with you.

The above 'paintings' are really sketches in ink that I am exploring to add paintings to my haiku. Ironically, I have some oriental frames that will be perfect; but, it means designing the painting and haiku for the frame rather than vice versa. Leave it to me to 'do things the hard way' ~ LOL ~ Well at least I can laugh at myself ~ There is 'hope' for me yet. Not easy starting a 'new path' later in life. Grateful, though, that I am able to do so.

Welcome to our blog expressing the self through art and other types of creativity to enhance the 'spirit' or soul and live well each day. Have been gradually healing from a real bad cold/flu, so not much art has been done. I have been reading and living on soups and ginger ale. Hopefully, I am almost back on my feet. I did start the small painting above and hope to refine it more. He is very representative of where I grew up on Cape Ann MA. It was the first and the largest seaport,I believe, for fishing for over one hundred years. So, I chose this painting to honor all those historical and current fishermen o' Gloucester or as the 'natives' say ' 'Glosta'. He is the essence and Soul of the sea.

Today's miracle is: You have the universal energy within and all around you and can have the life you want. How by trusting the Universe and listening to your Higher Self, using your natural energy and love for yourself and others. Let it be.

What you choose to call a higher power could be God, Spirit, The Light, The Universe, Higher Self, I AM, The Force just to name a few. Whatever you choose to call the 'energy', it is within you and all around you. It is not blind faith. It is a deep inner trust.

In 'resting' and recovering from a ghastly cold, I have been exploring in my sketchbook to see what I could do. It is another beginning and needs practice but it has the 'essence' I think I am looking for currently. Hope this puts a smile on your face and some joy in your heart.

AFTER MATH OF HOLIDAYS

Welcome to Share The Creative Journey and being back to blog land. It was a very good holiday. Yet, it seemed to take my energy away as I caught a 'whopper' of a cold on the plane going to visit my son. So, I have done little but the necessities ~ like keeping hydrated and warm. Hopefully, all will be well to start the New Year ~ with yet a another 'day' party with friends.

The above painting is one I pulled from the archives. It is one I did almost a year ago in celebration of Children's Sunday at local church I used to attend. It was done with Sennelier pastels on pastel paper, matted and framed. It is approximately 8 x 10 with an 11 x 14 frame. I wanted link up with Paint Party Friday and on Saturday, Artists in Blog Land. So it is all I could come up with and still take care of my health. Wishing you all Happy Creating and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Spent Xmas in North Carolina where my son has chosen to live. A fun time was had by all ~ cept I managed to pick up the worst cold on the flight going to NC. Did enjoy visiting and now am some glad to be home and hopefully to recover from this cold. No fun traveling on plane coughing, sneezing and feeling terrible! Yuk!

In the photo, Sean is being creative cooking crepes using a regular circular fry pan. Must say they came out well. They were then filled with seafood in a cheese cream sauce. Delish!

Welcome to Share the Creative Journey. The above sketch is the start of #7 in the 'She Spirit' Series ~ I do believe I will stop at #7 will know further when I hear from 'my muse' when she appears.
This is an actual break from the other six I have completed and will do the final touches to soon after the holidays. I now have 3 'She Spirits' in my sketch as opposed to the one and not quite sure where it is headed with colors and further design. I will keep you posted.

ON THE EASEL ~ 6TH 'SHE SPIRIT'

Welcome to Share the Creative Journey. The photo of my oil pastel painting 'She Spirit' above is the 6th in a series of 7. Because today is Friday this is for PAINT PARTY FRIDAY. Come back Monday and join our Miracle Monday Blog Meme. Thanks.
We are also linked today to Artists in Blog Land.

This painting above is coming from the 'Spirit Within'. I followed no photos or pictures. I have been motivated to create this 'figure' for quite some time. In some respects it does resemble an ikon. The tree to me is symbolic of nature, of course, and reminds me of more pagan times when people valued and lived more closely with nature. If I analyzed this painting or series, I would have to say I am trying to honor the feminine divine as well as nature. Besides, my 'playful self' always loved being outdoors and being active in nature. Our earth is such a precious gift and the divine feminine in all of us is indicative of the mothers who have given birth to us. Whether we are male or female we all have, according to Jungian psychology, a male and female spirit within us and around us. How this all gets manifested is a very individual experience as well as a collective unconscious one. Honor it all.

Good Morning and welcome to Share the Creative Journey.
The photo above was somewhat of an epiphany to me. When I took this photo it was of the sunrise, when I finished it sure looked like a night time view to me. Wow!

So rather than continue with my psychology or Mental Monday, I decided what I wanted to send out into the world today to start the week off and each week was a positive message. You are a miracle, you dear reader. You are a 'child of the universe' with the Divine within you and all around you. Blink and the moment is gone. Live well and the moment takes care of itself. Live slowly, simply, sincerely a dear person once told me. I am now trying to do just that. In what ways are you trying to savor the moments you have? Share the journey, comment and tell us about those moments, those very simple, loving, daring, creative moments in time.

MENTAL MONDAY

Welcome to Share the Creative Journey and Mental Monday with Zena, psychotherapist, and Zoe, the client. They have been working together on issues of trauma, addictions and relationships for several weeks now.

Zena: Good Morning, Zoe, great to see you and how was the holiday for you?

Zoe: Well, it went okay, my family of origin is okay but it was a little unsettling for me at times. My sister wasn't there because she is basically a drunk and homeless and I feel sad for her. Our parents were good parents and yet my sister, Tracy, is lost. The family was okay and had been contacted by her and she was in the hospital again. I know I can't 'save her' yet it saddens me. I feel bad for my parents too.

Zena: What do you think is the most difficult for you?

Zoe: Hmmm ~ I think that the difficult part is loving my parents and my sister yet feeling helpless.

Zena: Do you have any 'survivor's guilt'? By that, I mean, do you feel guilty because you were able to bring yourself 'out the dregs' and rise above it all.

Zoe: I suppose, in a way, but that is not what troubles me the most. I really wish and pray that Tracy would come to grips with whatever pain she has and could get herself out what 'self trap' she is in. I know she has her addictions and it is not easy. I just want more for her than what she is doing.

Zena: Zoe, that is very normal that you would wish that for your sister and I know you love her. Yet, we each have our 'path' and that 'cage' ~ remember the 'cage' we talked about? We have to live our own life, empathize, wish and pray for others, especially those we are so close to. The word that is used for that is 'detachment'. It is not easy to do. It is learned by practicing each day to 'let go' and turn it all over to your 'higher power' what you believe is a power that can help you live each day well. I suggest that you read about Taoism and see if that 'speaks' to you at all. I do wonder were you able to do any art?

Zoe: Not a whole lot. I did design what I think I might use as a Holiday card and I did a collage. Here it is. I kept it very simple because I was doing too much and needed to simplify things for myself for the holiday. Here it is:

Simplicity

What I was trying to express was my feelings of needing to relax, focus and keep things simple for the holidays. So I layered a sky with birds then at the bottom a few layers and then I found a photo of this lovely painted bird. I could identify with that bird.

Zena: Do you want to share about 'identifying' with that bird?

Zoe: Well, it felt like me, all colors, because of all my life experiences and its head was faced upward and life felt very peaceful there.

Zena: Wonderful, Zoe, you have and continue to enhance all of your strengths and recognize what you need to work on. I am really pleased with your progress.

Zoe: Thanks, Zena, next, though, is the big Holiday. I hope to keep my emotions under control and to work through any difficulties using my art and collage. Collage helps me to quickly make something yet it takes time to pick out pieces to collage.

Zena: Thanks, Zoe, collage does seem to work for you and I am sure your sketching and painting also brings you to a point of collaging your feelings and vice versa. Keep up the great work.We need to end this session. Are you able to come next week?

Yet, Another Red Haired Girl

Welcome to Share the Creative Journey. Today we are linked with Sophia's Sunday Sketches (click link to go there)at her blog Blue Chair Diary. My sketch for today is yet another Red Haired Girl. I know, you all must be getting rather bored with these Red Heads. I am not and that is a wonderful sign (just ask a former art instructor who says I have "mars in venus' and therefore jump from one thing to another) ~ I am staying the course and working at 'art' even it is Red Heads. Perhaps, my Mom, Aunt and Grandmother (all redheads) are channeling me and thus the 'red heads'. LOL

I am still working on my 'She Spirit' series so hopefully by next week I will have one that I can post. I do feel that the series of a particular theme is helping me progress in my art. I will never be a famous artist but I am an artist and doing my best each day. With a 'theme' in progress, I am not wasting time wondering 'what will I paint today?'
I do have something with a Holiday theme that I will be posting on both blogs next week. So 'hang in with me' ~ Your support is both appreciated by me and motivating for me and I thank you all. Working at 'art' can rather isolating at times and finding some online artists has really kept me stimulated and painting and sketching and that is a gift! Although next week, I will be meeting with a small group of artists and meeting once a month there after ~ so I am hopeful that will also be productive.

Welcome to Share the Creative Journey. It is Mental Monday and Zena the psychotherapist is here with Zoe, her latest client. These sessions are based on a composite of previous clients I worked with in my previous life. I also taught psychology on the college level so I draw much of my information from former lectures. Hope these are helpful and informative for you.

Zena : Good Morning, Zoe, how has the week been for you?

Zoe: Not bad, not bad. I am a little edgy about the holidays coming up but that is rather usual for me. Most people at my AA meetings are a bit edgy too.

Zena: Certainly is normal. Holidays are always rather emotionally laden whether you have experienced trauma or not but especially troublesome for those that are healing from trauma. So you are right to raise that issue. How can I help?

Zoe: Well, I am doing pretty well. I worked on a collage and that helped me (as you say, enhances) my strengths and focused on those right now because it is coming into the holiday season. Can you help me with detachment?

Zena: Sure, I know it is a difficult concept to put into action but what you want to do is try not to take anything personal, remove yourself from that 'victim' self. When you are with your family of origin, and their behaviors start and some may 'press your buttons' try to remember to take a deep breath and relax and try to 'watch it like a movie' going by you. You are there but not climbing into 'their cages'.

Zoe: What do you mean by 'cages'?

Zena: When people start to project any of their emotions on to you they are trying to get you into their 'cage'. A cage being a visual of what people are in when they have a 'mood' or a 'snit' and are really unhappy with themselves yet, they take it out on those around them, especially loved ones. So if you have trouble with family time at Thanksgiving and are going there; Remember the scenarios that are probably going to happen. Then visualize yourself ~ staying detached and not getting into the 'cage' with anyone. Let them 'rattle around' in their own cage. Soon they will realize they are not going to get to you. Does that make sense?

Zoe: Wow! I like that visualization. You are right. I have seen that happening and boy, does it ever happen on holidays. I really want to be clear and strong and content this holiday season. You will see what I am attempting do in my collage that I worked on for today. Here it is:

What I tried to do was put all kinds of affirmations in there with white ink pen and I used the wonderful colors to really strengthen my sense of Higher Self ~ not just my ego.

Zena: I really like this, the colors, the Unicorn, the eye and words, healing, all I can be, validate me, be, love, unique, emanate, ~ You are really blossoming and shining, Zoe. You are making fantastic progress. You haven't mentioned the 'relationship' that ended. Is that going to be an issue for you over the holiday season?

Zoe: Thanks, yes, I am doing so much better. Glad you can see what I am doing with the collage. Yes, too, to the relationship. I miss being part of a 'couple' yet I don't want to be with 'just anyone' or someone less than what I need or want. So ~ what I am going to do is work on my art work and see friends that validate me for who I am. I will be a bit sad; but I will do okay.

Zena: Great, Zoe, and thanks for that great collage and I can see where it has helped give you visual affirmation. Hang it in a place that you will see it all the time for the holidays. As usual, if you have any concerns, just call me.

Zoe: I will. You have a great Thanksgiving. See you next week.

The above photo is a sketch I began today from a photo of Zoe. I am using Sennelier oil pastels. Painting from a photo, picture or real life has not been 'my thing' for the most part in my art life. A good artist friend told me it would be much easier than they way I tend to paint which is from my imagination. I am all for learning and improving my art skills. So I am trying my best. The photo I am working with is not the best but then again I am 'out of my comfort zone' ~ so it is a WIP ~ a Work in Progress.

Session with Zena and Zoe

Zena has been working with her client Zoe for many weeks now and Zoe is making very good progress. She has had a history of trauma, some alcohol and drug abuse and has resolved many of those issues through the use of her art. She still attends AA meetings on a regular basis, has been working in the Graphic Arts field and been in an intimate relationship which she just ended last week. She is also nearing the end of her sessions as she has made progress by leaps and bounds.

Zena: I didn't hear from you this week so I assume you are doing okay?

Zoe: I am, my job is good, my art is developing even more and I ended that relationship that was not even healthy for me. I just didn't see it. I thought things were moving along and we were okay. Then I realized how little I really saw of him and when I did I was not happy or excited. I even think some of my loneliness was from being in a relationship that was not fulfilling my needs nor his. So I miss the steady companionship. Yet, I really feel it is for the best that we ended and he seemed to feel the same.

Zena: Wow! Not very professional statement but you have had a major breakthrough and are seeing very clearly. I am so glad for you and that you seem more at peace with yourself.

Zoe: Ah, hmmm, yes, I guess you could say that. Now that you mention it. I am. I was wasting time and energy on a relationship that was not the right one for me. It wasn't easy leading up to the final decision. What I mean is, I was having these lonely feelings and I thought it was because I wasn't getting out enough. Well, it was some of that; yet I felt lonely when I with this person that was suppose to be good for me and significant. I was blaming myself when all the time it wasn't me not socializing enough. It was me socializing with the wrong people and he was one of the wrong people.

Zena: Yes, denial is a defense mechanism that we all use and I think in this situation you were denying things about the relationship and thinking that you needed to get yourself out more. When it was the relationship that was creating lonely feelings for you. What have you been doing to socialize or what will you do? Especially, with the holidays, is that an issue for you?

Zoe: Ah, I have been working at my job, creating some art, talking with some artists online and going out with friends and talking about Thanksgiving and Christmas with what family I have and some friends. I think I am going to focus on being with family and then seeing a few friends leading up to the holidays.

Zena: So you feel okay about this ending of the relationship and the holiday socializing is in place for you?

Zoe: Yes, I feel free, I feel that I had made a mistake thinking that this person was the one. He isn't and now I am going to focus on me, family and friends and take it day by day for the most part.

Zena: Wonderful. It sounds like many issues are clearing up for you ~ Anything else you want to share?

Zoe: A friend made a collage and I think it speaks for how I feel right now. I have a good sense of 'my higher power' as they say and my friend's collage speaks to me too. Here it is. I wanted you to see it. She gave it to me and it is really reminding me of some strength that I didn't realize I had. She is a good friend.

She said she made it for herself awhile back and she thought I might like it right now. And I do ~ it speaks of so much that I have been transitioning through as I have worked with you.

Zena: ~ This is wonderful and it is a great visual reminder for you that you do have a 'new life' and that you are in no rush and will take your time and still do well. Well, do you still want to come next week?

Zoe: I do ~ I think that for the holidays it might be good for me to know you are here.

Zena: I am here and call if you need to. In the meantime, take it slow and I will see you next week.

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY

Yea! It is Friday and it is not just any Friday ~ It is Paint Party Friday time! A big thanks to our hostesses over at PPF. The above painting is a 5" x 5" canvas with a 2" cradle done with oil pastels. This is another series along with the 'She Spirits' that I will be working on for a few weeks. There will be five of them to start and they are entitled 'Redhead Girl Spirit'. The painting below is the first in the series and I always have trouble duplicating so it looks like each 'Redhead Girl Spirit' will have her own personality as it should be. My maternal grandmother, my mom and my aunt were all redheads and now I have a four year old niece that is a red head. So that was the impetus for this series. Although these are all painted from my spirit and not any photographs at all.

MENTAL MONDAY

Welcome to Mental Monday and Zena, the psychologist. Currently she is working with Zoe, her client, with issues of trauma, creativity blocks and enhancing Zoe's strengths and and weaknesses. Many
of these 'sessions' on Monday are drawn from my previous life as a psychotherapist. They are based on general client issues and no one particular client. Having also taught psychology on the college level, I draw upon that experience as well. All names are fictitious and all rights are protected.

Last week Zena and Zoe were working on Zoe's feelings of loneliness and Zoe did a collage to help express her feelings using a method that felt safe for Zoe. If they are artists, I tend to have clients choose what feelings and what art methods they want to use each week.

Session with Zoe

Zena: Hi Zoe ~ good to see you. So how was your week?

Zoe: It was rather earth shattering. I had been feeling lonely as it was and now I feel doubly lonely.

Zena: What happened that is creating these feelings?

Zoe: Well, the relationship ended that I had. We haven't talked much about this. In fact, I don't think I have ever mentioned it. Hmmmm ~ Guess that might mean something right there.

Zena ~ Well ~ tell me about him. How long have you been in the relationship?

Zoe: I was engaged for almost a year and we had a big blow up and now that is that. I really don't want to get back with him; I do feel even more lonely. I don't have anyone that is significant like he was.

Zena ~ Were you able to do any art and did that help you with your feelings?

Zoe: I did a collage which always helps me sort stuff out and it did help.

Zena: Do you realize that 'relationships' is the hardest and biggest issue everyone struggles with on this planet?

Zoe: No, I guess I didn't realize that. It sure feels difficult and I feel like I am going through some major changes. Here let me show you the collage and you will see what I am talking about.

Zena: Wow! This expresses many of your emotions and there you are with your face and another face beside you?

Zoe: Yes, I felt that was my 'significant other' ~ fiance ~ I don't know what to call him. He is definitely moving off to the side of my thoughts. As you can see above my head is all my 'monkey mind' thoughts as you called it. Beyond that is the Universe that I am trusting in right now to direct me through this loss. Zena, it is another loss for me, I can see, yet I know it had to happen.

Zena: I see and I fully understand what you are saying. You are learning to trust your "Higher Self" and now your perceptions are getting much clearer and coming faster. It is good that you are trusting in the 'universal energy'. Your 'guides' will help you through this as well as yourself, your art and sharing issues with me. It is still you working on these life issues, yet, we all trust in a 'spirit' of a sort and it is what works for you, not someone else.

Zoe: Whew! I am exhausted! Healing is no easy path. Right?

Zena: You got it. It is very tiring for you to face up to being responsible for yourself and staying on your path. You are doing great!

Zoe: Thanks, I feel I am and realize that each day is up to me how I deal with it. I can make it a good day or horrible one. It is taking time and practice for me.

Zena: Okay. Glad to hear how much you are learning and for next week I would like you to continue with the collage. Make one or as many as you feel might help and choose what feeling you want to deal with each time. So I will see you next week?

Zoe: Yes, I will be here. Thanks, enjoy your week.

My sketch is another WIP (work in progress) although she is pretty near completion. I sketched her using pastel chalk on a 5 x 5 canvas with a 2" cradle using an oil based background. Then I began to work with the hair and face. I tend to put the eyes in first (as I believe they are the 'window of the spirit within') Once I begin to create her face I then use oil pastels. I used to use oil paints and now I am finding that I am more comfortable with the oil pastels and have found some great brushes that work well with the medium.

My muse is directing me in the oil pastel direction and it feels very fluid and freeing to me. Rather like pastels but tends to adhere to the canvas much better. A friend would say I am 'all over the place' with my creations because of some 'astrological' issue in my 'charts'. Who knows, I am doing my best to create and finding what I like and don't like and what I might like to really focus on and it seems to be the oil pastels. Right now this piece of art work is really at the 'sketch' stage and will decide more what I want to add, if anything as I go along. Hope you like her and any creative suggestions I will certainly entertain.

The above paintings are part of a series of paintings that I am working on to eventually hang on my own white walls that are crying out for some color. They are entitled 'She Spirit' and as I work on one and near completion I tend to start another. My goal is to paint at least seven. The latest one as you can see has somewhat of a holiday and winter background and color and the evergreen trees being a symbol of lasting life and the 'She Spirit' is my visual representation of the 'Divine' that is present within all of us and around us. The above painting/sketch is for Whimsical Wednesday. I believe we are all surrounded by 'angels' 'earth fairies' 'the little people' and all that is magical and mystical. The 'unseen'. I am a 'child at heart.'

was always magical and mystical to me as a child.

It is shaped as a half moon is surrounded by very high rocks on two sides and lots of trees and trails that we loved to climb as children. I would particularly imagine that Peter Pan and all his friends were there and playing with me. It is still a wonder filled place. This is for :

Session with Zoe

Zena: Good Morning, Zoe, how are you doing today?

Zoe: Hmmmm ~ I'm okay ~ it has been an okay week.

Zena ~ Well, it is good to see you. What's up? Something is bothering you?

Zoe: Hmmm ~ just in a funk, I guess ~ I just don't know where I belong. My old friends are all into alcohol and drugs and I just don't fit with that any more. I want to create and I do ~ yet my mind is all over the place and feeling like I don't know which direction to take. Job is good. I am getting commissions, some art has sold and yet I still feel stuck. Going in circles. Here, I'll show you the collage I did for today.

CHAOS

Zoe: A professor of mind once said, when you are in a situation like I am just take it 'lightly' and ask 'What's next?". Zena I don't even know what I want to do in this moment. I feel like this picture. My mind is all over the place.
Zena: ~ Yes, we all experience, 'the monkey mind' sometimes more than others. So let's take it one step at a time. What feels most chaotic or hurtful right now?
Zoe: I think that it is 'finding a place for me to fit in the world' ~ socially, I guess you would call it.
Zena ~ You are fitting into the 'art world' and you do have friends and a small family. All of us come 'into the world' alone and leave the 'world' alone. The important thing is for you to see 'what is good about you' and move on from there. Socially, trust that 'the universe' is moving you in the right direction and it may take some time but it will work out. Look how far you have come. Practically, are there any creative groups you could join?

Zoe: Hmmmm ~ I was thinking of trying to find a book group, a photography club or an artist group. Even teaching an art course to children. Yet, I can not seem to 'get it together'.

Zena ~ It always seems that way when 'out of the chaos' ~ things become clear. Look at what you suggested. Wow! Zoe, you have great ideas. So ~ let's try and put a 'positive spin' on your 'chaos' and just do one thing this week. Besides continuing with the collage making, which seems to help you, pick one of the groups and find information about them, go to a meeting and just explore. Do you think you can do that?

Zoe: Thanks, Zena I will try and see what I can do. Not sure what I will find but it beats feeling like I have been.

Zena: ~ Zoe, give yourself some credit ~ you are moving along great ~ bound to have some difficulties. You are rising above them and that is great! See you next week. Call me if you need to or have any questions.

So ends this session with Zena and Zoe ~ Zoe is making progress. She has come a long ways in her life and tends to be very hard on herself. The collage work helps as it not complicated and she can express herself well through the visual medium. See you next week.

My sketch wishing you all a Happy Halloween is done with pen and ink and water color. It is sketched first in pencil and then I outlined it with a micron pen and then proceeded to use my watercolors. Sometimes I do my sketches with a pen and other times I feel more comfortable using a lead pencil first. Hope you enjoy the Witch greeting your for Halloween.

Queen of the 'She Spirits'

It is time for Paint Party Friday. Hurrah! Thanks to Eva and Kristin for hosting this great event that we all look forward to during the week. Some how it took me all week to recover from the busyness of the previous week. Good that I am active and all but sometimes it is just exhausting. Grateful for today.

So there is my excuse for not doing anymore than I did. The painting above is somewhat of a change for me. I decided to explore with my watercolors and see what I could do with this sketch that had been sitting there for weeks. So here she is 'Queen of the She Spirits'. I basically had sketched this from a magazine photo and then it sat and waited for my muse to decide what to do with her. It is not great; but it is okay and I had fun exploring with my paints.
'Fun' is what I am trying to 'focus' on at this stage. So enjoy and have fun viewing all the wonderful artists involved in PPF.

MENTAL MONDAY

(with Zena, the psychologist and Zoe the client)

Zena has been working with Zoe on issues of trauma and how it blocks her creativity. Zoe is gradually learning that she can create and, point of fact, the creative expression itself is going to help heal her of her residual trauma and any creative blocks.

Zena: Good Morning, Zoe, Hope your week went well. So how are you?

Zoe: Good Morning, I am okay. The week was busy. I did some creating, photographing, sketching. I seem to be doing good with my creativity. It is coming along and sometimes I get blocked and then I try to sort it out by journaling or taking walks.

Zena: Movement helps to get yourself clear of whatever is 'churning up' and perhaps clear it away. I sense something else is bothering you ~ what is it?

Zoe: Ah, I am struggling with a sense of 'loneliness'; it is not consuming me; but, it is there. Friends I had, no longer seem to fit in my life. I know it is because I have changed and they are still doing pretty much what they have always done. So, I am trying to find out 'where I fit in' ~ where do I belong?

Zena: Maslow, a motivational psychologist developed a theory called the Hierarchy of Needs and my sense is that your basic needs are taken care of, and now again you are working on 'a sense of love and belonging'. And maybe you are experiencing some self actualization. Where would you like to belong? What is it you are needing, wanting?

Zoe: Well, I know my parents and family love me but they are busy with their life and my life has been altered so much and now I have begun to move through my traumas and have begun to create again. Yet, I don't have a 'group' ~ work used to be it. Now I am in my apartment creating and it is somewhat isolating and I don't want to get lonely and depressed. Yet, I don't know what to do.

Zena: First of all 'all the answers lie within' ~ We say we 'don't know' when we are not clear about what we would like in our life.

Have you tried creating something to express those 'lonely' feelings. Those feelings, incidentally, are okay, they should not be labelled negative. They are natural 'stretching feelings' that are calling to you to move and grow. To expand your horizons and not settle for less than what you want and need.

Zoe: Hmm ~ I agree ~ Let me show you the collage that I created and see what I can explain to you about my feelings.

Zena ~ That would be great. Many times a visual can help one to clear their thoughts and see what is happening within themselves.

Zoe: Okay ~ well here is a collage I made. What do you think?

Zena: Wow! You have done a great job in expressing your feelings with this collage. Can you explain more about it to me?

Zoe: Well, I know I chose the Ram as I know I am strong and independent. That even 'strong people' can get lonely sometimes and so I chose the foreground and background as lonely, barren type places. Also, the Ram is hidden except for his head, eyes and strong 'antlers' is that what you call them? He is alone, no mate, no herd ~ just him. He is hesitant about 'being in the world.That is how I feel, I have no mate, I have no 'herd' (like minded group) and I am not sure about which way to go. I do have friends that I socialize with and some family, not large, and they are scattered not near me except my sister and she is married and busy with her life. I guess I feel most people have mated and settled into their life. Me, I am settled in most ways; yet I am not settled with anyone special and have no group that I feel strongly connected with and see frequently. What do other people do?

Zena: Well, you seem to have a good sense of how you feel and have defined what others are doing. This week, since we are running out of time. I would like you to think about, write, collage, sketch, paint about what type of group would you like to belong to? What type of people do you need around you? Do you need/want a mate in your life?

Zoe: I will try; I am just not sure about some of this. I will try and work on it. Thanks, Zena

Zena ~ thank you and I will see you next week.

So Zena and Zoe are still working and making progress. The creativity is expanding with Zoe and now she is beginning to feel safe enough to think about some deeper issues. Till next week.

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY

Welcome to Share the Creative Journey linked today with Paint Party Friday. (click on the title above to go there). Many fine artists can be found there and a big Thank You to the Hostesses.

The upper painting as many of you know is the 4th in a series of at least 7 entitled 'She Spirit'. I have been working on them for a few weeks now and the top photo is the latest edition and the one below it is last week's edition. For some reason I could not get them to post next to each other.

Funny story while working on this painting, I had somehow managed to get oil pastel paint on the floor and I was dancing around to a new wonderful CD (in between painting) and suddenly realized I was tracking blue pastel paint all over the place. The name of the CD (if you are curious) is entitled Mr Sandman by Corinda Carford. Her voice, the songs, the music just speaks to my soul and I was having a wonderful time 'booging' and painting. No maid to clean up the mess I made, though! So I am just a versatile eccentric artiste enjoying each day. CD seems to be only available from Amazon and not iTunes. It is a wonderful CD and I highly recommend it. ~ Progress, for my painting, I think; despite the mess I made on my floor!

Monday ~ THE PSYCHOLOGIST IS IN

MENTAL MONDAY
(with Zena, the psychologist and Zoe the client)

Good Morning, Zoe, good to see you and how was your week?

Zoe: Well it was pretty good. I was able to create some things. I felt my energy was a bit scattered. The weather seemed to effect me as it was rainy and dreary for about three days. I try not to let it get to me. Yet by the third day, I just felt I just wanted to not go to work. I wanted to stay on the couch and read a good book.

Zena: You did do some painting and sketching? It sounds like you had a pretty decent week. What do you think was going on with you? Can you explain it or is it still a bit vague?

Zoe: (laughing) ~ I felt like my head was stuffed with 'cotton batten' and that I spent so much time in my 'head' that I just couldn't get out of my own way.

Zena: Yes, I hear what you are saying. Our thoughts begin to control us and then we get 'stuck' in that pattern and sometimes we have to just go with it. It is really our bodies telling us something that we are not paying attention to or something is transitioning within us and about to surface.

Zoe: What I finally did Sunday nite before coming here was to paint a watercolor and I do think it is a good portrayal of what I felt like ~ out of focus, out of balance and just not 'in my body'. Even the painting shows the body being smaller than my head. I was able to laugh at it and just said ~ I will 'let it go' and show Zena tomorrow. So here it is ~ At least I created and stayed with the feelings which before I would have tried to 'numb' myself with drinking or drugging or something not healthy. So here it is:

Zena: Great Zoe ~ I can see what you mean ~ you even look a little weary. Were you feeling lethargic?

Zoe: Yes, that is how I felt on the third rainy day, I just felt I don't want to 'be in the world' today. So I stayed home.

Zena: Did you feel guilty?

Zoe: Yes, but I did it anyway.

Zena: What do you think your body might have been telling you?

Zoe: That I was just plain exhausted from trying to figure everything out. So I just stayed home and 'vegged out'.

Zena ~ Most psychologists might not say this ~ but good for you. You gave yourself 'permission' to 'take a break'. We all need to do that now and then. You don't do it often. You are making great progress and listening to your self more and more. Wonderful!

Zoe: You help me feel better and I have stopped 'beating up' on myself. I guess I am 'getting there'.

Zena: You are and I can see progress ~ so let's continue with you creating art in whatever way feels comfortable for you to express your feelings. Would you like that? And do you want to schedule for next week?

Zoe: Yes, I can do that ~ use my art to express my feelings and I would like to come here next week. My mother is happier now that I seem happier. So that is good too.

Zena: ~ See you next week. Call me if you need to.

Above is my most recent WIP for the 'She Spirit' series that I had started and 'She' is number four and I plan on doing seven. Below, per a few requests, here is a photo of all four them. 'She Spirits' shining light your way ~ ^_^

You realize, of course, that in some way they are all 'works in progress'. I have found new brushes to use with the oil pastels so I will be refining these all at some point. Not too much time this week to work on them ~ I did manage today to work on the fourth one and she is progressing well. I feel good about this. I am just letting my 'spirit' fly and letting my 'muse' direct me.

I can't wait to see what you all have been painting. You are a great group and I am so glad to be a part of this. Thanks for 'being you' and having 'your own artstyles' and sharing. Have a wonderful weekend.
